Christy Cazares
Christy is the owner of Speak Play Create Speech Therapy Inc., a mobile and virtual pediatric practice based in Southern California. She specializes in supporting early communication milestones (6 months–3 years), preschool speech and language disorders, and helping families access speech-generating devices. She graduated from SDSU with a B.A. in Art History & Education and an A.A. in American Sign Language & Deaf Studies. Christy completed her student teaching in Fine Art at a local high school before moving to Scottsdale, AZ, where she began a career in special education. Upon returning to the coastal breeze of California, she became the reading specialist and art instructor for K–8th grade within the Diocese of San Diego, while also serving as the substitute Adapted Yoga instructor for adults with disabilities at the local community college.
While teaching, Christy completed her post-baccalaureate in Speech-Language Pathology at CSU San Marcos and then moved to Boston, MA for graduate school. It was there she experienced the awe of a New England autumn, the ease of a Dunks on every corner, and birthed a love for hockey (let's go Bruins!). After earning her M.S. from Emerson College, Christy began her clinical fellowship at Camp Words Unspoken (MA) on the SLP team.
Christy has served in a variety of camp roles, including Camp Director, Retreat Leader, and Instructor (art, yoga, and nutrition) at various youth wellness camps. Her clinical experience includes working with medically fragile children and adults, autism, stuttering advocacy, and voice and feeding therapy.
Christy is passionate about supporting all children in becoming confident communicators—and she cannot wait to make new memories at CWU California!
